1. GENERAL INFORMATION
All the Xenios USA® XFLOOR™ products need to be installed by expert flooring installers. Xenios USA® herein provide the main rules to be followed by installing the XFLOOR™ items. Xenios USA LLC and/or its International Licensers can’t be responsible for any damage to things and/or injuries to persons and/or animal while installing the floor. A bad or not correct installation, or not correct use of the recommended tools/products for the installation (such as the adhesive compounds) may result in to a product warranty void. The following guide is to be considered as a recommendation based on our experiences with installers and material suppliers. As material and conditions vary from site to site, the installer must, as an expert, evaluate each site individually. The quality of your workmanship depends on your professional assessment and evaluation of the installation site. Please note: follow also the application guides provided by the adhesive manufacturers (where the use of adhesive compounds is required). If uncertain, always perform a small installation test on the individual site. It shall be possible to stock any Xenios USA XFLOOR™ flooring. It is recommended to do it by keeping the product/s within the original package. It is also recommended to not stock any kind of flooring within humid environment and/or subjected to lower than 10°C or higher than 40°C temperature: such conditions may damage the construction materials and so they may result in to earlier worn of the products. General Warning with sport-floor installations: thick kind of floor should be always installed by having care to avoid dangerous steps on all floor edges. Xenios USA carries special parts (sold as options), such as slopes and rims, to avoid steps on thick rubber tiles edges. It is furthermore recommended to keep rolls ends (when floor to be installed is made as a roll) glued or taped to the underneath floor so to avoid dangerous moving laps around the workout area. Xenios USA LLC and its international licenser can’t be responsible for any damage to personal properties and/or injuries to persons that may result by unprotected, not fixed or not highlighted floor steps and/or moving laps.
2. FLOOR SURFACE (SUB-SURFACE)
Unless specified on each single product Data Sheet, all Xenios USA® XFLOOR™ items are thought to be indoor installed. Xenios USA® warranty will void in case of outdoor installations and/ or prolonged exposure at the direct sunlight and/or elements. Installations of rubber floorings where weight-drops kind of training are performed on, should be made just on to underneath concrete surfaces. Any other kind of underneath flooring, such as wood/plywood or rubber, or ground, may not be suitable for a perfect installation and/or to let the products keep their features, such as, for example, drop absorbing, noise and vibrations absorbing, workout tools durability, etc.. The most suitable underneath floor for weight-drops activities is made of steel reinforced concrete and it should be at least 10 cm. thickness (screed). “TATAMI” floorings can be, of course, also installed on to other kind of underneath surface, such as, for example, wood or plywood surfaces. Even though all XFLOOR™ products are thought either to protect users and training equipment from falls and drops injuries and/or breakages, and to protect underneath flooring from breakages and/or damages, Xenios USA LLC and/or its International Licensers can’t be responsible for any personal injuries of users and/or training equipment damages and/or breakages and/ or underneath floors damages and breakages. Since Weightlifting, Powerlifting or similar training activities are really severe for flooring and environments (heavy weights may be drop on the floor continuously), it is always recommended to carefully evaluate with expert technicians all site’s conditions and to be advised by the same experts about the suitability, the resistance, and the features of the underneath floor, along with the weight drops vibrations and noise consequences on neighborhood. In some cases, even installing a thick rubber tile made floor, the underneath floor could be destroyed and/ or weight drops vibrations and noise could be spread to the neighborhood. Even though it is not recommended, should a rubber flooring be installed on to a wood (or plywood) pre-existing floor, it would be furthermore recommended to use a special sealing sheet inbetween so to avoid, while cleaning the rubber floor, water to drain down on to the wooden underneath. The concrete floor, where a rubber-made XFLOOR™ product will be installed on. must be prepared according to regulation DIN 18365 Part C “floor surface” or according to local building regulations. The surface must be clean, dry, free from grease and level. If the floor is not level, apply a leveling compound. Should the XFLOOR™ products you are going to install, be glued on to the concrete floor and should the concrete floor be non-absorbing, it is recommended to apply a flat coat/filler to prime the surface and aid adhesion. Any time a glued installation need to be put in place, floor and room temperature must be >15°C with air humidity <75%.
The Xenios USA® XFLOOR™ “WEIGHT DROP” and “SHOCK ABSORBER” Rubber Tiles, along with the Foam-made “UNDERNEATH ACOUSTIC AND ANTI-VIBES MAT” and all the “TATAMI” series do not require an installation with adhesive compounds. It is just recommended to install such kind of floor in order to cover the whole surface and to cut the tiles’ edges in case it is needed. It is duly not recommended to cut the “TATAMI LEGACY” tiles. XFLOOR™ “WEIGHT DROP” and “SHOCK ABSORBER” Rubber Tiles installation made in order to form a kind of isle (so without having all the borders in touch with a wall and/or with any other kind of barrier) may result tiles moving apart, even when the same tiles are equipped with the special interlocking pins. When tiles carry interlocking pins, it is recommended to use few drops of glue on both ends of each pin, before to push the pins in to tiles holes and so connect the same tiles. In order to have a better and more durable installation it is recommended to use also some Polyurethane glue to stick each tile to the underneath floor and/or to stick each tile each other. Any time a flooring is going to be installed as an “isle” (two or more free-sides), it is always recommended to use ramp-like edges all around. It will make the whole flooring more stable and it willalso avoid any risk of injuries due to the floor steps users may not mind. Most suitable glues are Polyurethane glues or Silicon glues. Both of the above need curing time that may vary from brand to brand, so it is important to carefully read glue’s maker instruction and to wait the curing time before to use the flooring.
ISLE-LIKE TILES INSTALLATION
*Only for > 20 mm. tiles (sold as an option)
**At least 3 mm.
XFLOOR™ “ARTIFICAL TURF” products can be installed just by lying the same on to the floor (any kind of floor is suitable for. Just remind that an installation on to a weak kind of floor, such as wood and plywood, may result in damages of the same in case of use of the “ARTIFICAL TURF” for sled pushing/pulling). Even though all “ARTIFICIAL TURF” roll feature an anti-slippery bottom layer, an installation with adhesive products or linen bi-adhesive tape will reinforce the grip of the roll/s on to the underneath floor. Always refer to a professional installer to know the most suitable kind of glue and/or adhesive tape, according to the floor where the artificial turf roll/s will be installed on. The Xenios USA® XFLOOR™ “EPDM RUBBER ROLL” and “PUZZLE TILE” and the XFLOOR™ “RUBBER ROLL – ACOOUSTIC UNDERNEATH MAT” need to be installed by using special adhesive compounds. Such adhesive products should be used either to glue the above mentioned kind of rubber flooring on to the underneath pre-existing surface (concrete) and/or to glue any kind of “EPDM RUBBER ROLL” and “PUZZLE TILE” flooring on to the “ RUBBER ROLL – ACOOUSTIC UNDERNEATH MAT” (when the installation is made as a multilayer one). The adhesive-free installation of the above mentioned kind of flooring may result in to lose of control of the rubber tolerances. According to the environment changes (such as use of the floor, temperature, humidity etc..), rubber could change in shape and sizes frequently and even over the tolerances mentioned on to each product data sheet. In case of adhesive-free installations, the Xenios USA® product warranty will void and no complaints about size changes of the rubber rolls and/or puzzle tiles will be followed up. Should a rubber flooring be installed on to the Xenios USA XFLOOR™ “ACOUSTIC AND ANTI-VIBES UNDERNEATH MAT” (made of special PU-Foam), it is duly recommended to use just the XFLOOR™ “WEIGHT DROP” and/or “HEAVY DUTY SHOCK ABSORBER” rubber tiles. XFLOOR™ “EPDM RUBBER ROLL” and “PUZZLE TILE” are not recommended for such kind of installation.
· 3.1 GENERAL WARNINGS
Before to start any installation of rubber XFLOOR™ products, it is duly recommended to un-pack all items and to lay them down on the floor for about 548 hours. Installation shouldn’t be performed with a lower than 5°C or higher than 30°C temperature, especially when the installation concerns the use of glue. All flooring made of rubber may be subjected to tolerances on sizes and weight, since they were manufactured. Usually, such sizes and weight variations should stay within a range of +1% / -1% in terms of Length and/o Width and/or Weight. While they should stay within a range of +2 / -2 mm. in terms of thickness. In order to limit such tolerances while floor is installed, it is recommended to install all the flooring at the same time.
· 3.2 NECESSARY TOOLS
To perform a safe and proper installation of an XFLOOR™ product, make sure to be equipped with:
IMPORTANT: most of XFLOOR™ items are bulky in terms of sizes and weight so, perform any installation just by team working. At least 3 people
1x (or more) Steel Rod 1.5 m. x 5 cm. x 2 cm.
1x (or more) Professional Cutter with spare blades
1x (or more) Tape measure
1x (or more) Marker painter / Chalk marker
1x (or more) Safety Knee Caps
1x (or more) Safety Glasses
1x (or more) Safety Gloves
1x Silicon Glue with its dispenser
· 3.3. TYPE OF ADHESIVE
Up to the several tests made with the installation of the Xenios USA® XFLOOR™ “EPDM RUBBER ROLL” and “PUZZLE TILE”, it is recommended to use a dispersion adhesives or a PU (polyurethane) adhesives. The fiber re enforced dispersion adhesive “WAKOL® D3318” or the “STOCKMEIER STOBIELAST S113” polyurethane adhesive, have proven to give excellent results. It is of course, recommended to be advised by expert installers about the adhesive brand and kind, also according to each sites’ features and specifications.
IMPORTANT: above mentioned kind of adhesive is thought to be used when rubber kind of flooring are installed on to a concrete underneath surface (most suitable for weightdrops uses). Even it is not recommended, should the rubber flooring be installed on to a different kind of surface (for example, wood or tiles), consult expert installers to know how to proceed with the installation. Should the selected Polyurethane glue be different by the here above mentioned one, just look for following mandatory features: high elasticity and anti-bacteria.
· 3.4. RUBBER MATS (ROLLS)
Before to go in to the final adhesive installation of a rubber roll flooring (XFLOOR™ “EPDM RUBBER ROLL” or “RUBBER ROLL – ACOOUSTIC UNDERNEATH MAT”), roll out the mats loosely and allow acclimatizing. Unroll the mats in the opposite direction to the roll direction. This compensates for the possible memory effect of the rubber. Once unrolled, the rolls will look “wavy”. This kind of outlook will disappear thanks to the acclimatization. It is recommended to leave the rolls down on to the floor for at least 48 hours. Should a cutting be required, use a very sharp carpet cutter along with a steel edge for straight cutting. Even though it is always recommended to follow all instruction of the adhesive maker, while the flooring is curing (so after having it glued on to the concrete floor), it is recommended to place weights on rolls edges and joints and to maintain pressure till curing is complete. The required curing time depends on the rubber thickness and temperature/ humidity of the environment (always read adhesive maker instruction and follow expert installers advises about time of curing and flooring walk-on).
· 3.5 RUBBER MATS (“WEIGHT DROP” AND “HEAVY DUTY” TILES)
Even though the tiles can be installed following the direction of the lines in-between, in order to obtain a more stable surface and, furthermore, to limit the size tolerance gaps, it is advised to lay the tiles by following a “T”-shape scheme (see drawing here below).
· 3.6 RUBBER MATS (ALL)
Should you need to cut and shape rolls or tiles, just do it by using a professional Cutter. To make it easier we recommend to use some water on the cutter’s blade and/or to use a steel rod as a leverage (see drawing)
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Even though the Xenios USA® XFLOOR™ products are thought to reduce maintenance procedure, a constant care of a sport flooring is the key to let it last as longer as possible. Moreover a constant cleaning of the same flooring is the key to reduce odors and bacteria growing. All kind of XFLOOR™ Underneath Acoustic and/or Anti-vibes mats and/or tiles, will not require any kind of maintenance and/or cleaning. All XFLOOR™ “TATAMI” series will not require any kind of maintenance but a constant cleaning of the surface (that should be done just by hovering it and then cleaning it with slightly dump cloth without adding any kind of aggressive detergent that may damage or corrode the surface of the “TATAMI”). All rubber-made XFLOOR™ products will need either to be cleaned on a regular basis and to be slightly maintained. One of the best feature of rubber floorings is the fact that it is extremely durable and low maintenance. Most liquids will not stain or damage the surface, and it is relatively difficult to damage the material with physical impact due to its resilient yet yielding nature. It is also resistant to burns (some of the XFLOOR™ rubber flooring also carry an anti-fire certification), and will not allow the growth of mold or mildew to occur. As for dirt and debris, it will rest gently on the surface of a rubber floor, making it easy to periodically remove. It is always recommended to read and follow all XFLOOR® products warranty chart, in order to exactly know what a flooring is made for. For example: even though all rubber flooring (especially the thick-tile-made ones) are thought to bear weight-drops kind of training, the drop of sharp objects may result in to floor breakages and warranty void.
2. RUBBER FLOORING MAINTENANCE
The most common maintenance issue that you will have with a rubber floor is dirt and small debris, which can be trekked into a space by shoes and boots, or blown in through windows and air ducts. This is a natural occurrence, that can be cut down to some extent through the use of place rugs at the entrance and exit of every room. Unfortunately, these small specks can be quite abrasive, and if not removed they can wear down the finish of the floor over time. Cleaning this debris is a simple matter of sweeping, or vacuuming it up on a regular basis. The frequency will depend on how often the space is used, and the manner in which it is used. The more often you undertake this one simple maintenance chore, the longer your rubber floor will be able to maintain its original luster and shine. Lasting of the rubber finishing: rubber is a material that can get worn by the use, so, a loose of the original matte and row surface, in favor of a smoother and shiner one is to be considered totally normal with rubber material. When a recycled black rubber flooring raw material has been colored from the origin (so without using naturally colored EPDM granules), the use of the same may result in to color fading and it will not be covered by the Warranty. All rubber flooring made of molded rubber granules (usually all thick tiles flooring) may release, from time to time, a quantity of small rubber granules. The same could be found either on to the floor surface or close to the floor’s borders. Such granules are to be considered as a normal wearing of the rubber tiles and they could be removed just by hovering and/or brushing. All XFLOOR™ “ECHO” items, made with rubber granules, are even more subjected to such kind of wearing process and they may show some leftover granules since they are brand-new. To use on such “ECHO” flooring, of sharp objects or to perform exercise like the “Jump Rope Double Under”, may result in to an increment of such left over rubber granules.
3. RUBBER FLOORING CLEANING
· 3.1 INITIAL CLEANING
After a rubber floor is installed, you should not clean it in any way for at least 72 hours. You want to give the adhesive holding the sheets or tiles in place time to get a firm, set hold. After three full days you can consider the installation complete and can treat the floor normally, with the following basic cleaning instructions. As mentioned here above (Rubber Flooring Installation) it is always recommended to read and follow adhesive’s maker instruction about curing. Please be aware that all rubber flooring may have a not uniform color, due to recycle rubber features.
· 3.2 ALL-DAY CLEANING
Before to wash any XFLOOR™ surface it is always recommended to remove dust and debris by machine-vacuuming. Please be aware that the use of “Chalk”, especially on rubber-made flooring, may result in to not removable stains. That’s due to a particular chemical reaction between chalk and rubber. If you get a nasty set in stain on your rubber floor a mop can be used to wet wash it without having to worry about damaging the material. Just make sure that any cleaning agent that you use is not acidic, acetone based, and that it does not contain turpentine. Those substances can all stain a rubber floor, causing permanent and irreparable damage, that will not the covered under warranty. For an inexpensive and all natural rubber floor cleaning and sanitizing solution you can mix one cup of white vinegar into a gallon (about 4 liters) of hot water. This mixture can be applied with a mop, sponge, or cloth in order to clean and disinfect the floor. Add a squeeze of lemon, or a few drops of the essential oil of your choice to the concoction for a fragrant effect. It is always recommended to test all cleaning solutions and products on to a small area before to go for the whole flooring. Should your own rubber flooring get damaged by the cleaning compound, do not go for the whole surface. Should you use a washing machine to periodically clean your rubber flooring, just make sure that it operates at less than 350 revolutions per minute or you will risk damaging the floor with your efforts.
· 3.3 RUBBER FLOORING WATER CONCERNS
Unlike some flooring materials, rubber is not affected by moisture and can be safely immersed in water for cleaning and mopping. When done allowing the water to air dry is perfectly fine, and will allow the floor to finish with a lovely streak free finish. The one concern that you may have to consider with rubber flooring is if it is installed over a plywood subfloor. If that is the case, then allowing standing water to sit on the seams in between tiles may lead to moisture leaking down, causing the subfloor wood to mold or rot. If you are aware of this during installation then a vapor barrier underlayment can be installed in order to protect the subfloor.
· 3.4 TIPS AND TRICKS
An inexpensive way to treat a rubber flooring and to let it goes back to its original glow and shining, concerns the use of a home-made conditioner made by mixing one cup of fabric softener into a gallon (about 4 liters) of water, and mop it on the floor. This should help to restore some of the original glow that the flooring had if done on a regular basis. It is always recommended to test all cleaning solutions and products on to a small area before to go for the whole flooring. Should your own rubber flooring get damaged by the cleaning compound, do not go for the whole surface.
· 3.5 THINGS TO AVOID WHEN CLEANING A RUBBER FLOORING
Any acidic or acetone based chemical cleansers, or any solution that contains turpentine. Scouring pads, and steel wool sponges can slice and scar the surface of the rubber, damaging it during the cleaning process. Evidences of damages due to the use of unsuitable cleaning solutions and/or cleaning tools, will result in a warranty void. Should you need to perform any kind of decoration or wall-work / wall painting within the place where the rubber floor is, it is always recommended to remove it before to start work, or, just in case the floor could not be easily removed, to protect it with clothes or nylon sheets. Should the rubber floor get dirty due to the lime and/or painting debris, do not use water to clean at first. Start by cleaning the rubber surface with a hovering machine and then with an air-compressor machine. Use the air stream to swipe the debris out of the floor. Should some white debris still be there, use a water-jet machine in order to force the same out of the rubber surface. The use of water at first, will not clean the rubber floor. The white powder come from the decoration job will get in to the rubber pores and it will be no longer removable.
